UA HONORS THE 1943 TEAM ON AUGUST 30: ALUMNI NIGHT
This year we gain our inspiration and theme from The UAHS Class of 1943 and their commitment to community and nation during a time of war. Please join us as we commemorate this special class of individuals whose dedication we admire and hope to carry on.
Front Row, from UAHS Class of 1943: Nelson French, Dave Auld, George McConnaughey, Jr.
Back Row, Captains of 2013 Team: Lewie Hughes, Noah Spielman, Jackson Finfrock, Chase Greenlee, Chris Frey, Sam Wheeler

This summer, three representatives from the 1943 Golden Bear Football Team, Nelson French, Dave Auld, and George McConnaughey, Jr., met with the 2013 team (pictured above). They told this year's team that during their senior year, some of their classmates were drafted in the military, and they weren't sure they would be able to field a team. However, the strength of UA prevailed and the football season continued!

These wonderful alums were honored as Jim Evans, The Voice of the Golden Bears, read a tribute to The Class of 1943 before the National Anthem.

In spite of the hindrance of wartime conditions.
When the weather grew brisk in the days of fall.
In spite of the war we still played ball;
While America pondered a second front.
Arlington boys could still kick and punt.
Game attendance of course was slow
Because the supply of cars was low,
But American people still could cheer
At a football game in the fall of the year.
